New Zealand Student Visa Required Forms

Visa for courses up to 3 months
For courses of up to 3 months, it is not necessary to apply for a visa before boarding, but it is necessary to have a prior electronic authorization  and pay a conversation and tourism tax (IVL), in addition to other required documents. Read  about the Tourist Visa
Visa for courses over 3 months


For those who are going to take a full-time course lasting more than three months, you must send the following documentation to Immigration:

  • Passport (valid for at least three months after departure from New Zealand)
  • A recent photo (3×4)
  • Online Student Visa Application
  • NZeTA
  • Financial Undertaking form signed by the person funding the course and their bank manager (Financial proof). Download the form.
  • Place offer at school/university
  • Receipt from the school proving full payment for the course
  • Accommodation guarantee with the address where the student will be staying
  • 6 bank statements from six months prior to visa application proving NZD 1,250 for each month of stay in New Zealand
  • Income tax and payslip
  • Health/travel insurance guarantee
  • Proof of payment of the conservation and tourism tax (IVL)
  • Copy of the air ticket (round trip) or print of the reservation
  • MEDICAL EXAMINATION: Only for those staying in New Zealand for more than 6 months:
  • Between 6 months and 1 year: “X-Ray Certificate” form completed by the physician (signature and stamp of the physician's CRM required), photo of the student attached to the form and signed by the physician + medical report that is issued along with the radiograph.
  • More than 1 year: Complete Medical Certificate:

Permission to Work:


According to New Zealand's new immigration regulations, as of January 2014, international students wishing to work in New Zealand must obtain a student visa, enroll in good quality schools (Category 1 of the , the course must be full-time (minimum 20 hours of study per week) and a minimum duration of 14 weeks.

With the new permit, Canadian students will be able to work 20 hours a week during their stay in New Zealand.
Only students on courses lasting more than 12 months will be able to work full-time during the course holidays.
