You have surely heard of the "canonical" 3 + 2 degree course, consisting of the 3 years of the degree (for this reason also called "three years") and the two years of the master's degree. Simplifying: the master's degree replaces what was previously called a specialist degree or, in some cases, the specialization.

The three-year degree is a first level degree. The master's degree, on the other hand, is of the second level. What does it mean? That to achieve a master's degree you must necessarily have a three-year degree. Different speech, however, for the "single cycle master" degrees.

There are some professions, such as the labor consultant, for which a three-year degree alone is sufficient. Look for targeted information on the academic path you should follow based on the profession you are interested in.

In other cases, however, having a master's degree allows you to have an edge in the search for a job. An example of this is represented by accountants. In professional registers there is often a division between Section A (dedicated to those in possession of a master's degree) and Section B (for those with only a three-year degree).

 The professional enrolled in Section B is, in a certain sense, in possession of a more "limited" qualification than those enrolled in Section A.
In other words, the choice of stopping at the three-year or pursuing a master's degree depends only on your professional aspirations and your willingness to continue your studies after the first three years.

Single cycle master's degree:
