Southeast Asia is an incredible region, with a very rich culture from its religiosity to the most impressive modern buildings. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia... All have their own peculiarities and attract tourists for different reasons.

Singapore has cosmopolitan and modern cities; Indonesia has some of the most impressive Buddhist temples in the world.

PRAMBANAN, INDONESIA:


The Prambanan Complex is a very famous tourist spot in Indonesia. Located on the island of Java, the site is home to several ninth-century Hindu temples that were built in 856 AD Prambanan is made up of two complexes: the Loro Jonggrang, Hindu, and the Sewu, Buddhist. In 1991, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the past, the site served as a royal temple in the heyday of the Indonesian kingdoms.


HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM:


Ha Long Bay is a must-see for nature lovers. The landscape is impressive: its emerald green waters flow through limestone islets covered by tropical rain forest. There, tourists go on boat and kayak expeditions to the islands, but the place also offers activities such as diving, hiking and climbing. The central region of the bay is over 300 square kilometers, with almost 800 small islands. No wonder it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

SHWEDAGON PAYA, MYANMAR:


Shwedagon Paya is a major attraction in Yangon, Malaysia. The city is already renowned for its culture, museums and temples, but Shwedagon Paya is one of the most popular spots for tourists. This was the first Buddhist temple in Burma, and according to legend, it contains the relics of the four Buddhas. The main temple is 98 meters high – the base is made of bricks covered with gold plates and it is surrounded by 64 small pagodas.

ANGKOR TEMPLES, CAMBODIA:


The Angkor region in Cambodia is a large archaeological site that in the past, between the 9th and 13th centuries, was located the Khmer Empire. There are more than a thousand temple ruins, ranging from piles of rubble to the imposing Angkor Wat temple. The site has been restored and today receives millions of visitors annually. In more recent analyses, the city of Angkor was found to be one of the largest pre-industrial cities, with a complicated infrastructure system connecting a thousand square kilometers. GRAND PALACE, THAILAND:


As the country is ruled by a king, Bangkok has a fascinating royal palace. Built in 1782, the palace, which for 150 years was the Official Residence of the Royals, has a stunning architecture, with details on the roofs and on each wall, doors and windows. Within the complex is the Wat Pra Kaew temple, home to the Emerald Buddha, made of a single stone.

PETRONA TOWERS, MALAYSIA:


Located in the city of Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, Petrona Towers are the twin towers of the commercial center. They were considered the tallest buildings in the world between 1998 and 2004. There are 88 floors, totaling about 452 meters high! Therefore, they are a symbol of Kuala Lumpur.
